Applying to the Genetics Area Program
You may submit your application through the Graduate School's online sumbission process, which requires a fee for completion, or you may download the necessary forms (Application Form and Recommendation Form) and mail them directly to:

The application deadline is January 15; review of applications begins as early as December 1. All accepted students will be required to submit the application fee. However, if you submit all your required materials directly to the above address, we can review your application before you pay the admissions fee.
Application Materials
A complete application consists of
- Genetics Area Program application form (PDF)
- three letters of recommendation (PDF)
- official transcripts from all colleges attended
- official GRE scores (general test required; advanced test in biology or biochemistry strongly recommended)
- TOEFL scores, if applicable
Admissions Criteria
Applicants are expected to have the following:
- bachelor's degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the last two undergraduate years
- a broad background in biology
- research experience (highly desirable)
- an introductory course in genetics and
- one or more courses in each of the following:
- organic chemistry
- biochemistry
- mathematics
- physics
Deficiencies in these subjects can be remedied after admission.
