GAP Travel Awards
The Genetics Area Program provides travel awards to first year PhD students to give them an immersion experience in mainstream science as early in their graduate career as possible. We believe this sort of activity enriches the first-year experience and can be very useful in helping some students decide on a thesis topic.
Restrictions
Awards are limited to one per student. The maximum amount is $600. Applicable expenses are limited to the following:
- round-trip, least-cost travel,
- registration,
- lodging, and meals during the meeting.
Instructions
You must submit your application at least 21 days before the date of travel. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Send all requested information to:

Further requirements
Upon your return from the meeting, you must submit the following:
- A signed MU Travel Expense Voucher (include receipts for all expenses for which you wish to be reimbursed)
- A completed Report on the Nature and Benefits of the Meeting form to describe your participation in the meeting.
The necessary forms will be mailed to you with your award letter.
